The recommended signal for daytime non-pyrotechnic visual distress is the orange flag and arm signals. This method is widely recognized and accepted for signaling distress situations in a clear and visible manner during the day. The orange flag is specifically designed to attract attention, while the accompanying arm signals can enhance visibility and convey that help is needed.

Using an orange flag is effective because it stands out against many natural backgrounds, making it easily noticeable to nearby vessels or aircraft. Additionally, arm signals can communicate urgency and indicate the need for assistance, reinforcing the distress signal.

Other options, such as an electric light or various types of lights like red meteors or white lights, are not suitable during daytime due to their limited visibility in bright sunlight. These signals are typically reserved for nighttime use when they can be seen effectively. In contrast, the combination of an orange flag and arm signals provides a practical and straightforward approach to signaling distress in daylight conditions.
